Greek Community Encourages Philanthropy Through Greek Week

During the week of April 4-8, the Greek Community at Bethany College hosted Greek Week, in which the community came together for friendly competition and to participate in philanthropic events designed to benefit the local community. Throughout the week there were numerous events consisting of athletics, artistic ability, knowledge, singing ability and philanthropy. Though competition was strong, the leading fraternity and sorority fluctuated daily. During the week, the fraternities and sororities collected 1,293 cans of food for the local pantry at Bethany Memorial Church, collected a trunk full of pop tabs that were donated to the Wellsburg Senior Center, and raised $1,418.22 for the Bethany Park. Greek Week concluded with the much-anticipated Greek Sing with Alpha Xi Delta and
Beta Theta Pi winning. The Greek Week champions were Beta Theta Pi and Zeta Tau Alpha. The Man and Woman of the Year were awarded to Chris Smurthwaite (Phi Kappa Tau) and Caroline Hoag (Zeta Tau Alpha) and Sarah West (Phi Mu). This year, the Greek Community also recognized Outstanding New Members Peter Franklin (Delta Tau Delta) and Amber Ridings (Alpha Xi Delta).
